Stayed twice at the Hampton by Hilton Riga Airport, once during the off-season (with rates around 57-65€) and during peak season (with rates around 90-105€) per night. It will vary a lot, depending on the dates.
Location
The Hampton by Hilton Riga Airport is located within a five-minute bus ride from the airport. The hotel is ideal if you arrive during times when public transportation is available and have limited luggage. Otherwise, it might be better to use an Uber or a taxi. During my stay, I also saw a shuttle bus at the hotel, so it might be possible to inquire about that. The hotel is also ideal if you arrive late or have an early departure.
It is also possible to book this hotel if you plan to stay for one day in Riga. The bus stop to the city is just in front of the hotel. The bus runs every 10 minutes, and it will take you about 30-35 minutes on average to reach the city centre. Day tickets for the bus only cost 5€.
Check-In/Out and staff
The check-in during my first stay was excellent, but during my second stay was just average. My ID card details were taken, and I was asked how I would like to pay for the room. The receptionist also explained some basic things about the hotel (breakfast location and times, location of the elevators). During my first stay, my loyalty (Gold Membership) was acknowledged, and the hotel allowed me to check in early. During my second stay, nothing was mentioned at the reception. I only found two bottles of water and a welcome letter in my room, which spelt my first name wrong.
The check-out experience was much better. A friendly receptionist took the room key. However, they did not ask me about my stay or if there had been any issues. Overall, this could be improved by staff training. The hotel also sells some items at the reception (snacks, drinks). This is great if you arrive late and need something.
Room and Wi-Fi
I booked a Standard Room with a King Size Bed. The bed was very soft, and there were two types of pillows for each side of the bed. There is a small sofa next to the bed, a small working desk with a chair below the TV, a fridge (which did not work properly during my stay) and tea and coffee facilities. The room offers some space to store items, but for two people, it could be a bit small. The air conditioning worked fine and was not too loud. Especially during hot summers in the Baltics, it’s essential to have good working air conditioning in the room, as days can get quite hot.
Bathroom and Amenities
The bathroom has a large walk-in shower. The shower offers a hand shower and a rainbow shower. The temperature control and water pressure worked very well. The Hampton Inn uses Gilchrist & Soames Zero% Natural Amenities. They offer conditioner, shampoo and shower gel. All of them are excellent quality. You can also find a hairdryer, a tissue box, two small and two large towels in the bathroom. Overall, the bathroom is a decent size. There are no additional amenities provided, like a cup or a shower cap. This time, the hotel did not offer any face cloths in the bathroom, as on my first stay.
Food and Beverage
The Hampton by Hilton Riga Airport offers an early continental breakfast from 04:00 am. This is ideal if you have an early flight and would like to have a small bite to eat or enjoy a coffee. The full breakfast starts at 06:00 am and it is available until 10:00 am. As with every Hampton Hotel, all guests staying enjoy a complimentary breakfast.
For hot food, the hotel offers scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, rice, vegetables and mushrooms. You can also find salad, cheese and cold cuts. There is no fruit salad, only apples and bananas as fresh fruit. You can make your waffles, as in every Hampton Inn. This option is pretty popular. You can find yoghurt, milk, some cereal, honey and jam. During my stay, I noticed bowls were missing, and it took some time to replace cutlery. This could be improved. There are also several pastries to choose from, as well as baguettes and toast. You will also find a coffee machine with several choices. Moreover, hot water with a selection of different tea bags is provided, as well as juices. Overall, the breakfast quality is decent. They also offer takeaway cups for coffee. This is great if you want to grab a cup of coffee and take it into your room.
Rating 7.5/10
The Hampton by Hilton Riga Airport is ideal if you need to stay near the airport or for a short stopover in Riga. You will find a bus stop in front of the hotel. This makes reaching the airport or city easy. The hotel is quiet, and the rooms are small but comfortable. There is nothing around the hotel in this area. If you need anything, you would need to drive or take the bus to the nearest shopping mall or supermarket. I had a great stay at this hotel and I would recommend it if you need to stay close to the airport. Due to its lower prices (around 100-120 euros), we do not recommend redeeming any points at this hotel. The redemption rate is at 20,000 points per night.
